By Aaron Humes: The Belize business community is supporting the launch of the Integrated Income Information System, known as IRIS.

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) commended the Department of Tax Services and the government for further simplifying business by facilitating online tax services. IRIS should be integrated with similar systems within the Customs Department and other revenue collection agencies.

The Chamber says this advances Belize towards an e-governance infrastructure and promotes ideas for similar initiatives that should be implemented in other areas of government to ensure greater efficiency, predictability and reliability of government and services. that it provides to the Belizean people.

“The BCCI strongly believes that similar initiatives in other areas of government can help. lead to greater benefits for the Belizean public and the country’s private sector, ”he concluded in a statement.

However, the biggest problem with the hundreds of millions of uncollected tax revenues, much of which is time-barred, remains, along with the identification and punishment of tax evaders.
