The South African Sugar Association (SASA) provides a range of specialist services that enhance the profitability, global competitiveness and sustainability of the South African sugar industry. The Information Systems Department provides technical support for IT users in the SASA departments. The division is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of all computer network services. A new opportunity has arisen for the position of Junior IT Generalist, within the division. This position is based in Mount Edgecombe and reports to the Director of Information Systems.

The primary focus of this position will be to provide desktop and face-to-face technical support to internal divisions from initial call through problem determination and resolution. Confident communication with internal and external stakeholders throughout the support process is essential, ensuring that stakeholders are kept informed at every stage while providing support and dealing with any issues in a professional manner.

The main responsibilities of this position are: Answer and resolve all IT support calls received and assigned to you through the IS Helpdesk in a timely and professional manner. Ensure that the recording and updating of tickets received on our central call recording system is maintained to agreed standards. Liaise with third-party maintenance vendors and transmit necessary technical information, as well as provide remote assistance if required. Perform daily checks to ensure all critical systems are operating to standard, ensuring system engineers are kept informed of any outstanding issues. Use problem analysis techniques and your own practical skills to diagnose and correct technical problems, resolving them at the first point of call if possible. Participate in a range of duties including refurbishment and repair of stores equipment, occasional site visits to integrate new systems and perform other relevant duties as required. Supports 1st and 2nd tier workstations, Exchange and the SharePoint portal, and other emerging Microsoft technologies. Provide assistance with connectivity and VPN issues. Ensure network availability by monitoring and resolving system utilization thresholds and reporting issues to responsible individuals in a timely manner. Installation, packaging and support of applications, patches and patches. Business continuity, backup management, keeping the system running 24/7. Enterprise Risk Management (Antivirus, Firewall, Logical and Physical Security) Monitor, implement and maintain all network devices, servers and all enterprise systems and applications. Adhere to and follow IT best practices and change management procedures. This position will familiarize you with the wider SASA environment as you will be expected to travel and provide support to the various peripheral divisions of SASA as required. Candidates must therefore be prepared to travel, have their own vehicle and be in possession of a valid driver’s license code EB (former code 8).

The ideal candidate will have: A degree or diploma in Information Technology Current MCSA/MCITP certification A minimum of two years of experience in the administration and support of computing environments and end-user software Experience in Microsoft Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Windows Server 2012 R2 or newer, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft Forefront and Endpoint Protection Experience installing, supporting and troubleshooting end-user environments including Windows 10 or newer, Microsoft Office 365 and third-party applications. Server virtualization using VMWare or any other virtualization application
