The calls for ‘R + D Excellence’ and ‘R + D Retos Investigation’ are the most important for the promotion of research in Spain

The aid of ‘Networks of Excellence’ and ‘International Joint Programming Actions’ increase your budget

The Secretary of State for R + D + I, belonging to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, has published the calls for research projects of 2015 for a maximum amount of 390 million euros, the same amount as the previous year. The call for ‘R + D Excellence’ is endowed with a budget of 125.5 million euros, while Challenges-Research has 244 million euros, to which we must add the 20.5 million in the modality ‘Projects of R + D + I for young researchers without links or with temporary links’.

The call for ‘R + D Excellence’ aims to finance experimental or theoretical research projects of high quality, without predefined thematic orientation, undertaken with the primary objective of obtaining results that represent a significant advance in knowledge and have a high scientific impact -technical, international, social or economic. These projects can be carried out individually or in coordination in order to encourage the creation of more powerful scientific cooperation schemes, in order to achieve objectives that could hardly be considered in a context of more restricted execution.

For its part, the call for ‘R + D Challenges-Research’ focuses on projects, both experimental and theoretical, whose objectives contribute to solving any aspect reflected in the eight major challenges of society included in the Spanish Strategy for Science and Technology and of Innovation. These projects can also be carried out individually or in coordination. The challenges of society are:

  • Health, demographic change, and well-being;
  • Safety, food quality; productive and sustainable agricultural activity; sustainability of natural resources, marine, and maritime research;
  • Safe, sustainable and clean energy;
  • Intelligent, sustainable and integrated transport;
  • Action on climate change and efficiency in the use of resources and raw materials;
  • Changes and social innovations;
  • Economy and digital society, and Security, protection, and defense.

The call for ‘R + D + I projects for young researchers without links or with temporary links’ counts for its part with a funding of 20.5 million euros for nearly 100 projects. This modality aims to promote the attraction and retention of talent through access to the R & D & I system of both principal researchers and young researchers with relevant and innovative scientific-technical contributions. These researchers must not be linked to any entity capable of being a beneficiary at the end of the application period or have a temporary link not exceeding one year.

Applicants for loans must choose payday loan.

In the case of Challenges-Research, they must also select the challenge that best suits the objectives of the project. It should be remembered that the projects may have one or two principal investigators and that they may be requested for one, two, three or four years, provided that it is adequately justified.

These calls are the most important set of aid for the promotion of scientific and technical research and its beneficiaries are universities, public R + D + I centers, non-profit private centers, technology centers and non-profit entities linked to science, technology, and innovation.

Other Calls

‘Projects Explore Science and Explore Technology’, with a financing of 5 million euros. Its objective is to promote the execution of basic and technological research projects whose results may represent a significant advance in knowledge, through the approach and development of new approaches and/or methodologies unattainable in another way.

‘Dynamisation actions Networks of Excellence’, with a financing of 7.3 million euros (last year it was 2.4 million). Its objective is to promote the creation and development of networks, facilitating communication between different research groups, to promote R & D & I activities and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and address the challenges that Spanish research has both in the field national as well as international, especially in the context of the European Research Area, encouraging the participation of researchers with consolidated scientific trajectories. In this call, two new types of networks have been included to promote coordination: one for Singular Scientific and Technological Facilities (ICTS Networks) and another that contributes to the management and coordination of national or international strategic R & D agents. (Strategic Networks)

‘Actions of International Joint Programming’, with a budget of 10 million euros (twice as much as in 2014), this call finances collaborative research projects of European and international dimension.
